This tour is ideal for travelers who want to experience the real Sahara desert with limited time. Starting and ending in Zagora, you’ll travel through Tamgroute and M’hamid, ride camels, explore the golden dunes of Erg Chigaga, and sleep in a traditional desert camp all in just two days.
Morning departure from Zagora by 4x4 with an experienced local driver.
Stop in Tamgroute to visit:
Ancient Koranic library
Pottery village
Underground Kasbah
Continue south to M’hamid, the last town before the open desert.
Lunch in M’hamid or picnic in the oasis.
After lunch, drive off-road (~2 hours) across sand and stony desert to reach Erg Chigaga dunes.
Arrive before sunset.
Enjoy a short camel ride for sunset views on the dunes.
Dinner and overnight in a Berber desert camp with music and stargazing.
Early morning sunrise over the dunes.
Breakfast at the camp.
Drive back the same way through the desert to M’hamid.
Continue toward Zagora, stopping in Tamgroute again if desired.
Arrive in Zagora by late afternoon
