Our 3 Days Desert Tour from Fes to Merzouga and Marrakech combines culture, adventure, and breathtaking scenery. It is one of the best ways to discover the Sahara Desert while traveling between Fes and Marrakech.
The journey begins in Fes. First, you drive south through Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine look. Then, you continue to Azrou, where cedar forests are home to Barbary macaque monkeys. After a short break, the route goes on through Midelt and the dramatic landscapes of the Ziz Valley. This valley, with its palm groves and rocky cliffs, offers excellent photo stops.
Next, you reach Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara. Here the adventure becomes magical. A camel trek leads you across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi at sunset. Later, you enjoy dinner and Berber music before spending the night in a desert camp under a sky full of stars.
On the second day, the tour moves towards Rissani and continues through Tinghir and Skoura. These areas are filled with palm groves, ancient kasbahs, and beautiful oases. By evening, you arrive in Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa.” Here, you spend the night in a riad or hotel.
Finally, the last day of the trip takes you to the famous Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After visiting this iconic ksar, the road climbs into the High Atlas Mountains. The drive across the Tizi n’Tichka pass reveals panoramic views at every turn. In the late afternoon, you arrive in Marrakech, where your unforgettable 3-day desert adventure ends.
After breakfast at your hotel in Fes, we depart towards Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. On the way, we pass through Ifrane, nicknamed “the Switzerland of Morocco,” then through Azrou, where we stop in the cedar forests to see the Barbary monkeys. We continue via the Middle Atlas to Midelt, where we stop for lunch. In the afternoon, the road takes us through the Ziz Valley and its volcanic gorges, with photo stops before reaching the desert. Arrival at Erg Chebbi in Merzouga for a camel trek to watch the sunset over the dunes. Dinner and overnight in a desert camp under the stars.
Wake up early to admire the sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast at the camp, camel ride or 4×4 transfer back to Merzouga. We continue towards Rissani, cradle of the Alaouite dynasty, and through the landscapes of the south via Tinghir and the palm groves of Skoura. Arrival in Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Africa.” Dinner and overnight in a riad or hotel.
After breakfast, visit the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, often used as a filming location for movies such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Lunch in the village before continuing towards Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi-n-Tichka pass (2260m). Arrival in Marrakech in the late afternoon (around 18h) and transfer to your hotel or riad.
