Our 5-Day Desert Tour from Fes to Marrakech begins with a scenic drive across the Middle Atlas Mountains. The road passes through Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco,” before continuing to the cedar forests of Azrou, where Barbary macaques live in the wild. The route leads toward Midelt and then the fertile Ziz Valley with its endless palm groves. By late afternoon, you reach Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Here, a camel trek takes you into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, where you watch the sunset and spend the night in a desert camp under a sky full of stars.
The following day is devoted to exploring the desert region. You can discover nomadic villages, visit seasonal lakes, and see the old mines once worked by locals. Small oases scattered at the edge of the dunes add color to the otherwise vast sandy landscape. A camel ride offers another chance to enjoy the peace of the desert before another night in a traditional camp.
Leaving the desert behind, the journey continues to Tinghir and the famous Todra Gorges. Towering cliffs rise on both sides of the canyon, making it a perfect place for a walk and photo stops. The trip then heads into the Dades Valley, where the scenery changes to winding roads, kasbahs, and unique rock formations. This area is one of the most picturesque in southern Morocco and offers a glimpse of Berber life.
The road west leads through the Valley of Roses and several traditional villages before arriving at Ait Ben Haddou. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a fortified ksar that has appeared in many films. After exploring the narrow alleys and mudbrick houses, the route continues to Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Morocco.” The final day takes you across the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. With panoramic views of valleys and peaks, this drive ends in Marrakech, the vibrant red city of Morocco.
